University Overview

South China Normal University (SCNU) is a Double World Class and Project 211 university as designated by China's Ministry of Education. It is also a key comprehensive university jointly subsidized by the province of Guangdong and the Ministry of Education, and listed as a provincial high-level university. SCNU now has four campuses in three cities: the Shipai campus and the University Town campus in Guangzhou, the Nanhai campus in Foshan, and the Binhai campus in Shanwei, three cities in Guangdong province, covering a total area of over 355 hectares. The university has four faculties, 35 schools and 9 research institutes and centers.

II. Eligibility Requirements

(1) Morality and Health

1. Abide by Chinese laws and regulations and university rules, and respect Chinese customs and traditions.

2. Good moral character, no record of illegal activities or criminal offenses, good physical and mental health, and meet the health standards required for a Chinese study visa.

(2) Nationality and Age

1. Hold a valid ordinary foreign passport and be a non-Chinese citizen.

2. Meet the requirements stipulated in Document [2020] No. 12 of the Ministry of Education.

3. Generally at least 18 years of age and not exceeding 35 years of age (specific age requirements for scholarship programs must be met).

(3) Financial Capability

Able to afford tuition, accommodation, and daily living expenses.

III. Program Duration: Four Years

Except for the Chinese Language program, other programs follow a "1+3" model:
The first year is spent at the International Culture College for general education, focusing on enhancing Chinese language proficiency, cross-cultural adaptation, foundational general knowledge, and orientation to the chosen major. After one year, students are placed into their respective colleges to complete their studies, based on GPA, Chinese proficiency test scores, and the outcome of the college interview.

V. Application Materials

1. High school diploma or higher qualification certificate.

2. Original or notarized copy of the final diploma (prospective graduates must provide a pre-graduation certificate).

3. Original or notarized copy of complete academic transcripts.

4. Chinese or English language proficiency certificate (HSK Level 4 ≥ 180; English program requires IELTS ≥ 5.5/TOEFL ≥ 75 or other equivalent language certification recognized by the university; native English speakers are exempt from providing English proficiency proof). Original certificates must be presented upon enrollment for verification; forged certificates will result in disqualification.

5. Chinese Scholastic Competence Assessment (CSCA Test) score: Visit the official CSCA website (www.csca.cn) for details on test content and schedule.

6. Study Plan (approx. 400 words, including understanding of the major and study planning).

7. Two Recommendation Letters (from the high school principal and a teacher for high school graduates; from teachers or associate professors for those with higher qualifications).

8. Copy of passport with validity of more than 6 months.

9. Copies of all visas (if any).

10. Recent bareheaded color passport photo (same dimensions as passport photo).

 The university may request supplementary materials if necessary.
 Applicants may submit supporting documents such as award certificates, admission letters, etc., to enhance their comprehensive evaluation.
 Submitted materials will not be returned under any circumstances.

VI. Examination Arrangements and Information Receipt

Please pay attention to admission information from the university between February 1 to June 10, 2026, to obtain details regarding examinations and interview arrangements.

(4) Housing Fee: On-campus rooms are limited, allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

VIII. Scholarship Categories

1. Chinese Government Scholarship (Full): Applicants under 25 years old with HSK Level 4 score above 180 apply through the embassy or dispatching authorities in their home country (Type A). Application period: January to early April. For details, visit https://campuschina.org.

2.International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship (Full): for Chinese Language program only. Applicants under 25 years old with HSK Level 4 score of 210 and HSKK Intermediate score of 60 or above. For details, visit https://www.chinese.cn.

3.Guangdong Province Outstanding International Student Scholarship: One-time grant of RMB 10,000. Application period: April to July annually. Suitable for self-funded admitted students under 30 years old; awarded on a competitive basis.

IX. Application Process and Important Notes

1. Online Registration and Application:
Log in to http://istudy.scnu.edu.cn, register, fill in information, and upload materials.

2. Preliminary Review (approx. 1-2 weeks):
Upon passing the preliminary review, the university will send a payment notification email.

3. Pay Application Fee (within 15 days):
Upload the payment proof to the system. Failure to do so will result in cancellation.

4. Interview (approx. 1-2 weeks):
An interview will be scheduled after payment confirmation.

5. Processing of Admission Materials (approx. 3-4 weeks):
The Admission Letter and JW202 Form will be issued.

6. Visa Application:
Apply for an X1 visa at the Chinese embassy/consulate using the admission materials.

7. Registration:
Register at the university as per the requirements of the Admission Letter. If unable to register on time, notification via email must be sent at least 4 weeks in advance.

*** Important Notes

1. All materials must be authentic and complete. Supplementary or revised materials will not be accepted after submission.

2. Each file must be less than 1MB.

3. Documents not in Chinese or English must be accompanied by notarized translations.

4. Prior educational experience in China must be truthfully reported, and relevant certificates must be uploaded.

5. Upon admission, do not change passport information or nationality status from the time of admission until registration.

6. Monitor the application system and email notifications closely.

7. Any falsification will result in disqualification of application or revocation of enrollment status.
